Welcome to the DC Food For All

The DC Food For All is an open forum about food and justice in Washington, DC. We come here to talk about the ways that DC residents get food, the ways we eat it, the ways that’s changing and the ways we want it to change.

We can taste some of the changes in our communities. In some of our neighborhoods we see new markets opening at a rapid pace; in others, it’s hard to find fresh produce for sale anywhere.

We can see similar disparities in the health of our residents. One out of every five children in DC lives at risk of hunger. One in three children here are overweight or obese. These are signs of food insecurity in our community, and that impacts the quality of life for us all.

Many people are seeking out better ways to grow, sell, buy, cook, and eat. Collectively, DC residents are increasing our demand for the nutritious and the sustainable. We can create new opportunities at every link in the food chain. We can turn vacant plots of land into fertile gardens; we can recover vast amounts of food that would otherwise go to waste; we can transform passive consumers of processed foodstuffs into active participants in the food process; we can expand and strengthen support to our most vulnerable neighbors.

We’re hungry for change. Working together, we can become a community with enough healthy, sustainable, and affordable food for all.

I would like to be included for monthly delivery of emergency groceries. WHo should I contact? My telephone number is 202-652-4777. I am disabled living on Social Security. Thank you, Wm. Taft

  • There are not many delivery programs in the city, but if you call the Hunger Lifeline run by the Capital Area Food Bank, we could find out if you are eligible for one of the delivery programs we’re aware of as well as check into other options for food. There may be an emergency food provider just around the corner from you. The number to call is 202.639.9770.
