Sharon happens to be responsible for more than 60,000 pounds of fresh produce being distributed to DC's poorest residents for free. You might want to read up a bit about the program she engineered. They're looking for volunteers for next year.

Food subsidies are way out of whack. That much seems clear. But I'm not a farmer, so I don't know what a transition would look like from all-corn fields to multi-crop fields of vegetables and such.

If Bread for the City or another DC Food For All affiliate can find an expert with a plan for farm transition, they should get them to talk. Peace.

I think that for the price you paid for your computer you could probably have bought several hundred pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables and distributed them as you saw fit.

The fact that you didn't hints at the real culprit - a self-importance unique to the U.S. It also demonstrates (like the purchase of eco-chic products like Birkenstocks do) why it won't work.

The rich, even the well meaning "liberal" rich, aren't willing to abandon comfort and perceived need for the betterment of society as a whole. What they are good at, is lip service which is far more damaging than french fries.
