First thing in this new year, we’re pleased to announce that we have relaunched this website! The site is certainly not a finished product, but we now have things like improved commenting features and RSS feed. We are still looking for volunteers who can tweak with wordpress – might that be you? Or maybe your friend?
Now some real-world news:
Coming up this week is a DC Food For All workshop at Bread for the City (1525 7th street NW) this Thursday (Jan 7th) at 530pm. This will be an open-format, with topics self-determined by attendees — and action-oriented, so come ready to get stuff done! So far, people have suggested workgroups that would delve deep into food stamps; the upcoming RootingDC conference; alternatives to supermarkets; and various projects related to the blog itself. Please RSVP or direct any questions or offers to help to dcfoodforall@gmail.com.
Also coming up this Sunday (Jan 10th): a video workshop hosted by DC Food For All editor Barrett Jones and Jessie Posilkin. Starting at 10:30am and proceeding on into the afternoon, attendees will break into groups and plan, shoot, and edit a video about a subject of their choosing. Do you have something to capture on video, or are you looking to learn more about video in general? Please RSVP at this page.
And a little later on: a DC Food For All Community Potluck on Sunday, January 17th, 5 to 8 pm at Potter’s House in Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan. We’ll hear from RootingDC folks about the upcoming conference, as well as other people engaged in interesting work related to local food systems. There’s a Facebook event page here and a flyer here. RSVP, please!
Finally, this came across our inboxes today and it looks great: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 (6:30-8pm) at the National Building Museum, a panel discussion about urban agriculture featuring a great group including our very own Liz Falk. That’s not one of ‘our’ events, but we don’t intend to miss it either!
Happy New Year, y’all.
