Healthy Schools Act: Myth vs. Fact

WHY SUPPORT THE HEALTHY SCHOOLS ACT?
To make healthy school meals, green the schools, support faith/community health/nutrition programs

MYTH VS FACT
The Big Soda lobbyists have been using a grassroots approach faking like they represent us. They have purposefully targeted Ward 7 and 8 with their deceptive ads and lies about the DC Soda Tax (a.k.a. Healthy Schools Revenue Act).

TRUTH: The soda tax DOES NOT include diet soda, juices, milk, non-caloric beverages and water.

TRUTH: Big Soda wants to continue to make its 70% profit margins on the bellies and mouths of our children (What’s the difference between this and slavery when ancestors in died in the sugar cane plantations all for profit?)

TRUTH: Currently Maryland and Virginia have a soda tax. DC tax will hit Big Soda, NOT small local businesses.

Stop them. Support our kids. Fund the Healthy Schools Act today!

WHY CALL NOW?
Because Councilmembers will make informal decision on the budget and the Soda Tax starting today and make their public vote next Wednesday.

SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION AND SPREAD THE WORD!
Go to www.supporthealthyschools.org.

JUST NEED ONE MORE VOTE! MAKE A CALL TODAY TO HELP A YOUTH!
We need to be calling Tommy Thomas, Kwame Brown and Vince Gray’s office. If you have people who can get on the phone before the end of the day, that would be very helpful!

Tell these Councilmembers that you will remember come election time with your vote and your community. Don’t let them turn their backs on our kids in fear of campaign dollars from Big Corporations!
